- Removable E-type steering wheel
- Still looks original
- Great security feature
- Transforms getting in and out
- Produced by CMC so can be bought with confidence
Taking a cue from F1, Jaguar specialists, Classic Motor Cars, have developed a removable steering wheel for the iconic E-type."It's a great security feature," says CMC's Nick Goldthorp. "It is not easy to steal a car that has no steering wheel!"
Not all owners are as slender as Twiggy and the E-type's cockpit is quite cramped, especially for taller types. Removing the E-type's large steering wheel makes an enormous difference to climbing in alighting. Goldthorp again: "Without the wheel in your way, just swing your legs out over the sills."
It is also a great safety feature for racers. In the unfortunate case of a racing accident, the driver can be removed in half the time.
CMC, who are renowned for their classic Jaguar upgrades, supply a new boss, which includes the upper splined section of the steering column. A standard original steering wheel bolts to the boss which also takes the original horn push. It could not be simpler. The price is £298 + VAT and they are currently available for Series 1 and Series 2 E-types. A short video of the steering wheel in action can be viewed in the News section or on YouTube.
