"Came off in my hand, Guv" - by design
Take a cue from F1, Jaguar specialists, Classic Motor Cars, have developed a removable steering wheel for the iconic E-type.Not all owners are as slender as Twiggy and the E-type's cockpit is quite cramped, especially for taller types. Removing the E-type's large steering wheel makes an enormous difference to climbing in and alighting. Goldthorp again: "Without the wheel in your way, you just swing your legs out over the sills."
It is also a great safety feature for racers. In the unfortunate case of a racing accident, the driver can be removed in half the time.

Classic Motor Cars Aiming Low!
No less than six seriously early E-type Jaguars have been, or are being, restored by pre-eminent Jaguar engineers, Classic MotorCars. These include the earliest of all, the prototype famously registered 9600 HP, plus the first production RHD Fixed Head Coupé. Currently undergoing a similar meticulous rebuild is the fourth roadster, a car which belonged originally to Jaguar's legendary 'Lofty' England.
